INTRODUCTION
Jeremiah, Daniel, and Ezekiel, were all alive during the 70 year Babylonian captivity. Daniel and Ezekiel were taken prisoner; Nehemiah, Ezra, Haggi, Zechariah, and Zerubabel, must have been born to prisoners in Babylon during the captivity.
After Babylon was conquered by the Persians, Nehemiah returned to Jerusalem to rebuild the walls, Zerubabel at the urging of the prophets Haggi and Zechariah started to rebuild the temple in Jerusalem and Ezra became the priest.
The book of Esther is right at the end of the Old Testament. Esther became Queen in Persia 479 years before Christ. Purim is still a Jewish holiday, and celebrates Queen Esther, and the deliverance of the Jews from Haman.
PICTURE 01 King Ahasuerus was an immensely wealthy and powerful king;
PICTURE 02 He ruled over one hundred and twenty lands, stretching from India to Ethiopia.
PICTURE 03 In the third year of the king’s reign, he decided to hold a seven-day banquet.
PICTURE 04 As the men got drunk, the king summoned his wife to appear in her royal dress.
PICTURE 05 So that he could show off her beauty, but the queen refused to come.
PICTURE 06 He was furious; “The queen must go!” Demanded the king.
PICTURE 07 Living in the land was a Jewish man named Mordecia, who was looking after his young cousin Esther.
PICTURE 08 Everybody thought that Mordecia had adopted Esther; they didn’t know she was a Jewess.
PICTURE 09 When the king was choosing a new wife, Esther was included, and it was love at first sight for the king.
PICTURE 10 But still no one knew that Esther was a Jewess, not even the king.
PICTURE 11 Esther was chosen to be Queen and went to live in the Kings palace.
PICTURE 12 Mordecia would visit the Queen daily.
PICTURE 13 One day Mordecia overheard two of the king’s servants, plotting to assassinate the king.
PICTURE 14 Mordecia went to Queen Esther, and told her to warn the king.
PICTURE 15 The plot was discovered, the two men were arrested.
PICTURE 16 And Mordecia’s action was recorded in the palace records.
PICTURE 17 Sometime later the king appointed a new prime minister, a man called Haman.
PICTURE 18 Haman ordered everybody to bow before him, which they did except Mordecia.
PICTURE 19 “I’ll speak to the king about this.” said Haman.
PICTURE 20 “Your majesty, there are people in the land that do not recognise or obey your laws.”
PICTURE 21 “You must issue a royal decree to destroy them all, men women and children.” The king said to Haman;
PICTURE 22 “The people are given to you, do with them whatever seems fit.”
PICTURE 23 And later the king and Haman sat down to drink.
PICTURE 24 The whole city was weeping and wearing clothes of sack.
PICTURE 25 Queen Esther was deeply distressed and sent Mordecia some clothes.
PICTURE 26 She also sent a servant to see Mordecia, Mordecia explained;
PICTURE 27 “Haman is going to kill all of the Jews, please beg queen Esther to plead our case before the king.”
PICTURE 28 So Esther put on her royal robes, to enter the kings presence.
PICTURE 29 “What do you want queen Esther? I have said that I will give you up to half of my kingdom.” So Esther asked;
PICTURE 30 “Could the king and Haman have dinner with me tonight?"
PICTURE 31 In the meantime, Haman was building gallows for Mordecia’s execution.
PICTURE 32 At dinner Esther’s only request, was that the king and Haman, would have dinner with her the following evening.
PICTURE 33 That night the king couldn’t sleep, so he ordered his servant, “Send someone in to read me the palace records.”
PICTURE 34 They read to the king, the account of how Mordecia saved the king’s life.
PICTURE 35 The next morning the king sent for Haman and asked; “What should I do to the man whom I want to honour and exalt?”
PICTURE 36 Haman thought that the king was referring to him, so he replied;
PICTURE 37 “The man should wear your royal robes and crown, and as he rides the kings horse through the city square;”
PICTURE 38 “The highest man in the kings palace, should proclaim him as honoured before the people.” The king replied;
PICTURE 39 “Go and do so for Mordecia the Jew, and leave nothing undone that you have spoken.”
PICTURE 40 So Haman had to dress Mordecia in the king’s clothes, and proclaim him specially honoured by the king.
PICTURE 41 At dinner Esther told the king that she is a Jewess, and begged him to save her people.
PICTURE 42 Then she explained in detail the plan to kill the Jews. So the king asked;
PICTURE 43 “Who would dare to do such a thing to the queen?” Esther replied;
PICTURE 44 “Him! This is the enemy sitting at the table with us.” The king was furious;
PICTURE 45 “For this Haman, you will hang.”
PICTURE 46 And so it was, that Haman was hung from the gallows that he prepared for Mordecia.
PICTURE 47 Then the king wrote a new royal order, to favour and protect the Jews, and signed it with his own royal seal.
PICTURE 48 Mordecia went out dressed in the royal robes, and the whole city came alive with rejoicing and celebration.
